Birmingham, Ala. - July 23, 2008 – Bright House Networks (BHN) recently became the first company in the Birmingham area to partner with the Birmingham Police Department to assist in the reduction of crime, launching “Operation Bright Eyes” in the Birmingham. The program was launched in collaboration with the City of Birmingham’s Operation Omnipresence.
Operation Bright Eyes is a Bright House Networks community initiative that was created to assist local law enforcement agencies in making our neighborhoods safe. The objective was to create a highly visible program that demonstrated the company’s commitment to help reduce crime and foster safer neighborhoods throughout the Birmingham area.
“The key message we continue to convey to customers is that our field service employees are the newest members of their Neighborhood Watch teams, and are working with local law enforcement agencies to keep neighborhoods safe,” states Karen Broach, Division President Bright House Networks Birmingham Division. “Our Operation Bright Eyes is a natural match for Operation Omnipresence. Our fleet of field employees can be additional eyes in the field to report crime in Birmingham”.
The Birmingham Police Department seeks to enhance it's relationships with the public and private sector, especially those with outside field representatives, through an initiative titled “Operation Omnipresence.” This initiative is designed to train outside service workers, technicians, and delivery persons in how to spot and report criminal activity or suspicious behavior, accidents, lost children, or injured persons. As additional eyes and ears, we understand that company field representatives may witness activity that could help the police department in their efforts to decrease crime and increase safety.
Training is provided by Crime Prevention Officers of the Birmingham Police Department. Field employees are taught to report crime not interfere or intercede with the criminal act itself.
